Here are some other pieces that mention our research.

Charlotte Observer, NC (September 2, 2015):

. . . As Crime Prevention Research Center director John Lott notes, with only two exceptions, all of the mass shootings in the U.S. since 1958 have occurred in the ostensibly “gun-free” victim disarmament zones. . . . .

Ti-State newspaper (Dubuque, Iowa) (September 14, 2015):

. . . The Crime Prevention Research Center does point out that England and Wales count homicides differently than the U.S. and other countries.   In England and Wales, cases that do not result in conviction are excluded from the homicide rate. If the U.S. calculated this way then the rate would be about half of what it is. . . .

BBC News emphasized that there is obviously no way to eliminate murders and assaults with licenses only. License restrictions can minimize risk, however. The Crime Prevention Research Center, on the other hand, believes that more guns in private homes can deter criminals. . . .

Reno News & Review (September 10, 2015):

. . . Despite recent media hysteria about rising crime, the murder rate continues its long run decline. Can’t this reduction in violence be at least somewhat attributed to the dramatic increase in personal handgun carry? I believe criminologist John Lott when he says more guns equals less crime. Taking away the right to self-defense by listing more people in federal databases in order to increase failed background checks to buy a gun will only result in more violence, not less. . . .

People’s Pundit Daily (September 10, 2015):

. . . But here’s the clincher. Take a look at this data from the National Rifle Association. Wow, tens of millions of additional weapons and a big drop in crime. Gee, maybe John Lott has been right all along? . . .

America’s 1st Freedom (September 16, 2015):

In April of this year, the Los Angeles Times published an op-ed with the provocative title, “There’s scientific consensus on guns—and the NRA won’t like it.” The gist of the piece was that the author had surveyed academics who write about firearms policy and found that the majority link more guns to higher death rates. (John Lott wrote a short and elegant rebuttal soon afterward.) . . .

America’s 1st Freedom (September 14, 2015):

. . . John Lott’s research would indicate this is true. Those countries that have enacted widespread Brady-type policies have all experienced dramatic increases in violent crime. To thinking folks, it stands to reason that rendering citizens utterly defenseless against violence is a hopeless strategy. Then, reason is something fairly foreign to Hubbuch and his buddies. Emotion rules their day every day. . . .

LimaOhio.com (August 30, 2015):

. . . Even if we believe there is too much violence in the United States, the answer is not fewer guns.

According to Dr. John R. Lott Jr., an economist who has written extensively on gun issues in the United States, someone legally uses a firearm to stop a crime 2 million times a year. . . .

The Times from Suffield, CT (August 29, 2015)

Within the wake of Wednesday’s capturing of two journalists in Virginia, one crime professional is looking out individuals who declare banning firearms helps scale back violence.

“Perhaps they’ve heard of Switzerland, which has a higher gun possession rate than we now have right here in America. Perhaps they’ve heard of Israel. In case you look throughout the nations on the earth, those which have the very best gun possession fee clearly have decrease murder charges,” stated John Lott Jr., president of Crime Prevention Research Center, throughout an interview on “The Steve Malzberg Present.” . . .

World Net Daily (August 27, 2015):

“The point of this is just to try to reduce legitimate gun ownership in other countries. Eventually it has some feedback effect in the United States. If Canadians are much less likely to own guns, gun control activists will point to them and say, ‘Look how outlandish we are in the United States,’” said John Lott, an economist who serves as president of the Crime Prevention Research Center.

Lott is also the author of well-known books on guns, including “More Guns, Less Crime” and “The Bias Against Guns.” He says the stated purpose of the U.N. treaty sounds pretty harmless but the devil is in the details.. . . .

The Reflector (September 17, 2015):

According to Fox News columnist John. R. Lott, only .00078 percent of conceal-carry gun owners were “responsible for a gun-related death,” and it becomes very clear that gun-control laws do not affect criminals. . . .

The Parent Herald (August 28, 2015):

However, John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center, says that the Tracker has recorded “shootings where people aren’t killed, criminal gangs are involved, and cases take place out of public view,” which simply means that some recorded shootings aren’t necessarily worthy of the attention given to it.

A gun rights advocate, Lott, said that he’d prefer to “focus on the cases that people are most concerned about, in the way the government defines them” . . .

Advocates for Self-government (September 10, 2015):

Others, including Bruce Frederick of the Vera Institute and John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center, have taken a more reasoned approach to the perceived spike in violent crime. . . . .

Writing in response to Mac Donald at the end of May, Lott pointedly contested her narrative, writing, “The bottom line is that across the largest 15 cities in the US the murder rate has fallen by by 12 from 749 to 737 (a 2% drop) or from 43 from 871 to 828 (a 5% drop).”
